Site: https://japan-driving-check.vercel.app ## Rules applied - Road Traffic Act art. 107-2: you may drive on (a) a 1949 Geneva Convention IDP + home license, or (b) a license from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan + an official Japanese translation (issuing authority or embassy, JAF, 訪日運転者支援協会, ADAC for Germany, 台湾日本関係協会 or ZIPLUS for Taiwan). Vienna-format (1968) IDPs are not valid. - Period: up to 1 year counted from the landing date, never past the IDP's validity (1 year from issue) or the home license's expiry. - 3-month rule: people on the Basic Resident Register who leave and return in less than 3 months don't restart the count; 3 months or more restarts it. Visitors restart on each landing. - Geneva parties that issue no Geneva-format IDP (May 2026): Albania, Serbia, Monaco, Ghana, France, Montenegro, Cuba, Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Côte d'Ivoire, Belgium, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Russia (France/Belgium/Monaco use the translation route).
